Calculate the dimensional weight and shipping weight of your package
Note: The shipping weight of your package is always the greater of the Actual Weight (in pounds) or the Dimensional Weight (in pounds). This is done by shipping companies to account for light packages that take too much room in relation to their actual weight.
Example: 10 lbs of feathers will take a lot more space on an airplane or ship than 10 lbs of lead.
Easy Calculation Method
In order to determine the Dimensional Weight of your package we use the formula below:
Dimensional Weight = Length (in inches) x Width (in inches) x Height (in inches) / 366.
Dimensional Weight = Length (in inches) x Width (in inches) x Height (in inches) / 366.
Example:
A package that measures 32 x 20 x 20 and has an Actual Weight of 30 pounds.Dimensional Weight = 32 x 20 x 20 = 12,800 / 366 = 35 lbs (always round up to nearest pound)
Since the Dimensional Weight (35 Lbs) is greater than the Actual Weight (30 Lbs), the Dimensional Weight will be used as the shipping weight.
